History of the Children's Heart Fund

The Children's Heart Fund at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine was formed in 1998 by two grateful parents who wanted to give something back to the Division of Pediatric Cardiology for helping treat their son's complex cardiac defect. After this life-altering experience at Mount Sinai, these two parents decided to reach out to other parents in similar situations and find a collective way to express the depth of their gratitude for the care and hope the doctors, nurses, social workers, and countless other staff offered to them in their greatest time of need.

Today, the Children's Heart Fund continues to be a parent organized group with involvement from friends and staff of Mount Sinai Medical Center. With the help of the Children's Heart Fund, the Division of Pediatric Cardiology has been able to purchase state-of-the-art echocardiography machines, fund mission critical research projects, and sponsor pediatric cardiology fellowship training. The Children's Heart Fund also underwrites a program to provide teddy bears with "Brave Heart Club" logo T-shirts for every young patient who undergoes cardiac surgery. The next project that the Children's Heart Fund plans to support is a much needed renovation of the outpatient clinical space of the Division.
